Pond Lily DamWest River in New Haven, CT In 1794, a dam was built on the West River in New Haven near the Woodbridge town line. As happened on numerous other coastal streams in New England, the dam blocked the migratory passage of many species of fish. DEP fishery biologists believed that alewife populations could be enhanced and restored by constructing a fish passage at the Pond Lily Dam. With help from the CT CWRP and other partners, the fishway was completed in 2001. The fishway opens up an additional 2.5 miles of riverine habitat for migratory fish, and provides them with access to 76 acres of spawning habitat at Konold's Pond.
