Barn Island

Barn Island Wildlife Management Area, Stonington, CT
In 2003 the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and partners were pursuing a $1,000,000 grant to purchase an additional 144 acres of wildland to add to the Barn Island Wildlife Management Area.  In support of the grant application and project, the CT CWRP contributed $5,000 for educational signage. This signage will help educate visitors about the importance and values of Connecticut's wetlands. The $1,000,000 grant was awarded, and the 144 acres is now preserved as part of the Wildlife Management Area.
